Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
